Abita Brewing Company, based in Covington across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans, is Louisiana’s flagship craft brewery and the most significant Oktoberfest participant in the state. Abita runs fall seasonal releases and brewery events that draw from both the Northshore communities and New Orleans proper. Their taproom in Abita Springs is worth a visit if you’re making an Oktoberfest-focused trip — it’s an easy day trip from New Orleans.
The Weather Reality
Here’s the honest planning note: October in New Orleans is still warm. Expect highs in the low-to-mid 80s through most of October, with humidity to match. The Oktoberfest beer garden aesthetic — wool sweaters, outdoor tables, crisp fall air — doesn’t quite apply here. Indoor bar events and venues with good air conditioning will be more comfortable than outdoor festivals, particularly early in the season. By late October, evenings become genuinely pleasant.

If you’re in New Orleans in October for other reasons, Oktoberfest events are easy to fold in — the city’s bar density and event culture make that straightforward. As a dedicated Oktoberfest destination, Louisiana competes less well against cooler-climate cities. But if New Orleans is your city, there’s no reason to skip the season.
