When German immigrants settled this stretch of the Hill Country in 1846, they built a real community — churches, a weekly market on the central plaza, newspapers printed in German. That community is still here. So when Fredericksburg throws an Oktoberfest, it lands differently than the imitation versions. The heritage is baked into the streets, not rented for the weekend.

Fredericksburg Oktoberfest 2026 runs October 2–4, 2026 at the Marktplatz — the historic market square in the heart of downtown. The Marktplatz has hosted community gatherings since the town’s founding. You’re not in a fairground on the edge of town; you’re in the middle of Fredericksburg, surrounded by the 19th-century storefronts on Main Street.

What to Expect
The setting. The Marktplatz is surrounded by the actual town — German bakeries, biergartens, and shops that have been operating for generations. The festival doesn’t exist in a bubble; it spills into the whole downtown.
The wine angle. The Texas Hill Country wine trail runs directly through Fredericksburg. Local wineries participate in or orbit the Oktoberfest weekend — beer and brats alongside Hill Country Tempranillo.
The food. Fredericksburg has German food year-round: bakeries selling strudel and kolaches, restaurants serving schnitzel and bratwurst. The festival brings it all into one place.

Book accommodation well in advance. Fredericksburg is one of the most visited small towns in Texas year-round. October weekends fill up fast, festival or not.
October weather is excellent. The Hill Country in early October typically runs warm during the day and comfortable in the evenings — upper 70s to low 80s by afternoon, dropping into the 60s after dark.
Build in time on Main Street. German bakeries, wine tasting rooms, the Pioneer Museum, and the National Museum of the Pacific War are all within walking distance. It’s a dense few blocks of genuine small-town Texas-German character.
