Most Oktoberfest festivals happen in a park or a parking lot. Snowbird happens at the base of an 11,000-foot mountain in Little Cottonwood Canyon, with a tram running overhead and the Wasatch Range filling every sightline. That’s the short version of why Snowbird Oktoberfest is one of the most distinctive beer festivals in the United States — and why tickets sell out well before the gates open.
2026 Dates
Snowbird Oktoberfest traditionally runs weekends from late August through mid-October — the shoulder season between summer hiking and winter ski season. Check the official Snowbird website directly for confirmed 2026 dates. Dates are typically announced in spring and the festival generally runs Saturday and Sunday each weekend through the fall.
Tickets and Pricing
Snowbird Oktoberfest is a ticketed event. Demand is high and popular weekends sell out. Check Snowbird’s official ticketing page for 2026 admission prices and buy in advance. Tram and gondola access may be ticketed separately or bundled — confirm what’s included when you purchase.
What to Expect
- German beer — traditional lagers, märzens, and wheat beers on tap
- Food — German staples alongside standard festival fare
- Live music — traditional Bavarian bands through the afternoon and evening
- Tram rides — Snowbird’s aerial tram runs to 11,000 feet; the views on a clear October day are worth the ride on their own
- Mountain setting — canyon walls, aspen groves turning gold, ski runs above the base
Getting There
Snowbird Resort sits at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon, about 25–30 miles southeast of downtown Salt Lake City. From I-215, take the 6200 South exit and follow UT-210 up the canyon. The canyon road is a single route in and out — on busy Oktoberfest weekends it gets congested. Leave Salt Lake City earlier than you think you need to. If Snowbird is offering any shuttle service for 2026, take it.
Tips Before You Go
- Altitude matters. The base area sits at around 8,000 feet. Alcohol hits faster and dehydration sets in quicker at elevation. Drink water between beers and pace yourself.
- Bring a layer. Mountain weather in late September and October changes fast. A jacket is essential.
- Buy tickets early. Popular weekends sell out. Lock in your date as soon as 2026 tickets go on sale.
- Go early. Crowds build through the afternoon. Arriving at opening gives you the best shot at tram rides without a long queue.
