Utah’s Oktoberfest is at Snowbird, a ski resort in Little Cottonwood Canyon that transforms into a mountain beer festival through fall. The combination of alpine scenery, tram access to 11,000 feet, and a proper biergarten setup makes it one of the more visually distinctive Oktoberfests in the country.

Snowbird’s Oktoberfest runs on weekends through September and October, making it a multi-weekend event rather than a single concentrated festival. The base village hosts the biergarten and food vendors, while the aerial tram runs to the summit for views over the Wasatch Range. Live music, German food, and seasonal beer fill the weekends. The mountain setting means temperatures are cooler than Salt Lake City below — bring a layer for evening sessions.
The Mountain Setting
Little Cottonwood Canyon is one of the most dramatic approaches to any ski resort in the US — a narrow canyon with sheer granite walls that rises quickly from the Salt Lake Valley floor. At Oktoberfest time the aspens are turning gold, which adds to the atmosphere in a way that a city fairground simply cannot replicate. The tram ride to Hidden Peak is worth doing independent of the festival itself.
Getting There
Snowbird is 29 miles southeast of Salt Lake City via I-215 and UT-210. The canyon road is a single lane in each direction and fills up on busy weekends — Utah Transit Authority runs bus service up the canyon from the valley, which is worth using on peak weekends to avoid the parking situation. Check current road and transit conditions before heading up.
